Best Hiking Vacations Europe:
Hiking trails and Walking Routes throughout the Province of Almeria
Almeria a Land of Contrasts and Hiking Paradise!
Best Hiking Vacations: Being a land of contrasts, Almeria is, without doubt, a Hiking and Walking Paradise. There are just so many different natural sceneries to be enjoyed that you will find it difficult to choose a tour.
Planning your hiking vacations, you may literally choose from hiking and walking along the coastline, soaking up the breathtaking views of secluded coves, creeks, volcanic rock formations in Cabo de Gata-Nijar Natural Park or admire the wilderness of the Badlands in the only European Desert, namely Tabernas Desert. Or maybe you'd prefer to walk from white-washed village to village in the Alpujarra or escape to higher slopes of Sierra de Gador, Sierra de los Filabres, Sierra Maria de los Velez or even Sierra Nevada. In any case, you may want to schedule your hiking vacations either in spring, autumn or winter months, since in July and August temperatures easily may surpass 38-39ºC! Although we sometimes take some of our favorite short walks even in August. But then, these are short and can be done in the early evening or early morning, avoiding the sun.
Getting ready for a self-guided tour:
There is a variety of signposted Hiking trails throughout the Province of Almeria, more than enough for your hiking vacations. The difficult part is: to pick the best! Depending on your time and the season, you may want to choose a short or even a long walking tour. What ever your choice is, get prepared. Download a map (click on the images to download), grab your backpack and... off we go!

Winter Walks in and around Cabo de Gata Natural Park

by Jane Lauriston Seigal
Do I really want to share all this? The absolute joy of my walks is the tranquillity and almost complete lack of people. However who am I to be so proprietorial about the amazing intoxicating experience of this most glorious of Spanish regions. But perhaps for those that cannot undertake these pleasures any more (could be me soon!), I can try to put into words and pictures the sensual pleasures of this outstanding locality. As to the best walk? Each time I set out, every walk is the best!
