Review: This is an enjoyable family run business, located directly opposite the Mediterranean Sea and offering a good atmosphere, together with a pleasant and comfortable decor, with an intimate terrace. It is the only French restaurant in the Mojacar area.
Chef Jeanmichel is a highly experienced French chef originating from Saint Breiux in Brittany. He previously ran his own very successful restaurant for 15 years in Rennes, northern France and was featured in a number of high profile French magazines, including Marie Claire and Elle, as the place to eat.
Known locally as 'The Quiet Chef' due to his quiet nature, his dishes are classically French and are produced to a high level, and at reasonable cost and with good presentation – the restaurant has a very good reputation. The menu is small but a good variety of differing dishes will tempt you to return time and time again, to work through them all! A small but decent selection of Spanish and French wines is available. Personally, I’d like to see some French cheeses included on the menu. Service is personable with Angeli, wife of Chef Jeanmichel, heading the front of house team. Angeli speaks 5 languages and so this restaurant appeals to those concerned about language issues.
Note: I understand from the owners that during the winter months they are considering offering a variety of themed evenings such as French Cheese and Wine, Specials and perhaps even a 'Menu de Gourmand’ which proves so popular in France. Chef's specialities: Escallope of Foie Gras with Fruit, Magret de Canard (Duck Breast) in a red wine sauce (excellent sauce!), Tarte Tatin, and Home-made Nougat Glace.
Highly recommended: Home-made Nougat Glace – excellent!Cost: (3 courses) 25 to 35 euros per head including wine – would spend more if they included French cheeses! To keep up to date: To follow the activities of Chef Jeanmichel Henri and Le Bistrot it is recommended that you subscribe or follow Chef – Jeanmichel Henri on Facebook, where you can not only see his amazing food, but also collect some classic French recipes!
